After two years of drawing I was allowed to pick up a paintbrush. It seemed so odd because my paintbrush was so long and far away from the canvas. After 3 or 4 little brush strokes onto my still life, our great teacher; Charley Meeds, turned off the lights. And I found myself sitting in the dark, with wet paint on the end of my brush. Then he said, “Always remember this. Anyone anywhere in the world can be one hell of a technician, but when you develop your style, you become an Artist.”
That is when I let go of everything and began to paint freely finding my connection to my world of stories. I am fascinated that each painting invites one into a narrative, to ponder or to distance from, physically, spiritually and emotionally. My granddaughter, Nola Dean told me I could do paintings for her, from now on……. now I really have a reason to paint……….
